Imagine how much more energy and time we would have if we didn’t waste it on worry.
“If there is no solution to the problem then don’t waste time worrying about it. If there is a solution to the problem then don’t waste time worrying about it.” ~ Dalai Lama
Worry is a distraction tactic of our egoic mind. It is designed to keep us out of the present moment by worrying about what we did or didn’t do in the past or what may or may not happen in the future. We are stuck in the past or future. It is an ego mind trap keeping us from experiencing life fully in the present moment. After all, life is occurring NOW
So how do we free ourselves from worry? You simply decide to take a vacation from worry. When I was first introduced to this tool by soul sister and coach Lisa Windsor, I was extremely skeptical and at the same time didn’t think I worried all that much so what was the point? After my initial resistance I made a choice to remain open and curious.
I realized I worried a lot more than I thought and it was all consuming. After just one week I decided to extend my vacation from worry and create a worry free life.
Before I explain the tool I need you to understand there are two kinds of worry. The first worry is the kind we can do something about. For example, if I leave my house and drive away and suddenly I worry about whether I locked the door or not. This is a worry I can do something about because I can drive back and check.
The second is the worry we have no control over or the kind of worry we can’t do anything about. It is often about fear of a future or past event. For example if I worry about whether I will get a contract or not. I can’t do anything but wait until I hear about the contract. Worrying doesn’t make it come any faster or easier. Worrying is just wasting time and energy.
Heart work ~ Worry Free Vacation
Here is how it works:
1. make a commitment for one full week to be worry free
2. every time you have a worry come into your awareness ask yourself “is this a worry I can do something about?” If the answer is yes, then what can you do? If the answer is no then write down your worry on a piece of paper and put it in a box or write it in a worry journal. Collect all worry thoughts for the week and the moment you write them down make a choice to release the worry until your vacation from worry is over.
3. After one week of accumulating all your worry thoughts you can spend the 8th day reviewing and worrying about everything you recorded. YES you get to spend the entire day worrying. Your vacation is over unless you choose to continue.
